There is a wide variety of Bird life in this area of South Africa where my cabin is located in the valley extending between the Olifant and Klaserie rivers serving as buffer areas between the highly commercial farms and the remaining pristine wilderness of the Greater Kruger biosphere. The habitat is a mix of mountain and riverine forest developing into savannah woodland as the altitude drops to 200 metres. Consequently I've been enjoying plenty of bird species from both the high and low velds as they regularly migrate between the two habitats depending on the seasons. I've also been able to help a few birds who have unfortunately been wounded by flying against a window pane, being hit by a car, etc. It’s such a great feeling to see an almost dead bird to recover, and then watching it fly away again!
